제7회 이야기 영어성경(창세기 제2장. 본문과 해설)

 

After completing His creation, God rested on the seventh day. The heavens and the earth were finished, and God blessed this day, making it holy. The order established by God through creation was perfect in itself, and now all life was ready to begin in the abundant world given by God. 1)

In the beginning, there was neither rain nor plants nor trees, but a mist arose from the ground and watered the earth. Then God formed man from the dust. He breathed life into the man made from dirt, and thus the man became a living being. 2)

* neither (a) nor (b) (a)도 (b)도 아닌. * mist 안개. * from the dust 흙(티끌)으로부터. * water the earth 땅에 물을 주다. * breathed life into ~에 생명을 불어넣었다. * thus 따라서, 그러므로, 이렇게(하여). * dirt 먼지, 진흙. 앞의 dust와 같은 뜻. * living thing 살아 있는 존재, 생령(生靈).

 

God prepared a beautiful garden called Eden for this man. The garden was filled with all kinds of fruit trees, and at its center stood the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river flowing from the garden spilt into four rivers: Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates. These rivers surrounded Eden, where many forms of life would grow. 3)

God placed man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and care for it. The man was free to eat from any tree in the garden, but God gave one command: “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from it, you will surely die.” God gave humanity the gift of choice and responsibility, guiding them to live responsibly while tending to the garden. 4)

The man lived with God in the garden, but God thought it was not good for him to be alone. So, He decided to make a suitable partner for the man. First, God created all the animals of the earth and the birds of the air, and allowed the man to name them. However, among the animals, there was no suitable companion for the man. 5)

Therefore, God put the man into a deep sleep and from one of his ribs, created a woman. God brought the woman to the man, and he rejoiced, saying, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” Thus, man and woman were created to help and love one another. 6)

In this way, humans were created for one another, and their relationship formed a union of love established by God. Both were naked but felt no shame. In the relationship set by God, there was purity and trust, and within it, humanity experienced the true meaning of oneness for the first time. 7)

<해석> 아담과 하와

 

2-1) 창조를 마치신 후, 하나님이 일곱째 날에 쉬셨다. 하늘과 땅은 완성되었고, 하나님께서 이 날을 축복하시며 거룩하게 만드셨다. 하나님께서 창조를 통해 세우신 질서는 그 자체로 완전했으며, 이제 모든 생명은 하나님이 주신 풍요로운 세상에서 시작할 준비가 되어 있었다.

2-2) 처음에는 비도 없었고, 식물이나 나무도 없었다. 그러나 땅에서 안개가 올라와 온 땅을 적셨다. 그때 하나님께서 흙으로 사람을 만드셨다. 하나님께서는 흙으로 만든 사람에게 생기를 불어넣으셨고, 그렇게 사람은 살아 있는 생령이 되었다.

2-3) 하나님은 이 사람을 위해 에덴이라는 아름다운 동산을 준비하셨다. 그 동산에는 온갖 종류의 과일 나무들이 가득했고, 그 중앙에는 생명나무와 선악을 알게 하는 나무가 서 있었다. 동산에서 흐르는 강은 네 개의 강으로 나뉘었는데, 그것들은 비손, 기혼, 힛데겔, 그리고 유브라데였다. 이 강들은 에덴을 둘러싸고 있었고, 그곳에서 많은 생명들이 자라게 되었다.

2-4) 하나님께서 그 사람을 에덴동산에 두어 그것을 경작하고 돌보게 하셨다. 그 사람은 동산의 모든 나무에서 마음껏 먹을 수 있었지만, 하나님께서 한 가지 명령을 주셨다. “너는 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라. 네가 그것을 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽을 것이다.” 하나님은 인간에게 선택과 책임이란 선물을 주셨고, 동산을 돌보며 책임 있게 살아가도록 인도하셨다.

2-5) 사람은 에덴동산에서 하나님과 함께 살았으나, 하나님께서는 그가 혼자 있는 것을 좋지 않다고 여기셨다. 하나님께서는 사람을 위해 적합한 동반자를 만들어 주기로 결정하셨다. 먼저 하나님께서는 땅의 모든 동물과 하늘의 새들을 창조하시고, 그 사람에게 그것들의 이름을 짓게 하셨다. 그러나 동물들 중에서 그 사람에게 적합한 동반자는 없었다.

2-6) 그러므로 하나님께서는 그 사람을 깊은 잠에 들게 하시고, 그의 갈빗대 하나로 여자를 창조하셨다. 하나님께서 그 여자를 그 사람에게 데려오시니, 그는 기뻐하며 말하였다. “이는 내 뼈 중의 뼈요, 살 중의 살이로다.” 이와 같이 남자와 여자는 서로 돕고 사랑하도록 창조되었다.

2-7) 이처럼 인간은 서로를 위해 창조되었으며, 그들의 관계는 하나님께서 세우신 사랑의 연합을 이루었다. 둘은 벌거벗었으나 부끄러움이 없었다. 하나님께서 정하신 그 관계 안에는 순수함과 신뢰가 있었으며, 그 안에서 인류는 처음으로 진정한 하나 됨의 의미를 경험하였다
