제1장 태초

The Beginning

 

 

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth from deep darkness. The opening chapter of Genesis tells the story of the beginning of all existence and explains how God created the entire universe. God, being the cause and source of all things, accomplished this monumental task of creation in six days. 1)

On the first day, God said, “Let there be light,” and created light. This light marked the first step of creation, bringing order to the darkness of void and chaos. God called the light 'day' and the darkness ‘'night,’ marking the beginning of the passage of time and establishing the unit of a day. 2)

On the second day, God created the heavens. By forming a firmament, He separated the waters above from those below, creating a space between the heavens and the earth. This space became the sky that stretched over the land, while everything under the heavens would exist upon the earth. 3)

On the third day, God distinguished between the land and the sea, creating various plants on the land. Once the ground appeared and the waters were filled, God caused all kinds of grasses and trees to sprout. Each plant bore seeds to sustain life, initiating the cycle of existence. 4)

On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars to govern the day and the night. The sun illuminated the day, while the moon and stars shone at night, lighting up all creation. This established the foundation for distinguishing seasons, days, and years. The day and night cycles brought order for all living beings to follow in the flow of time. 5)

On the fifth day, God filled the seas and the skies with life. He created various aquatic creatures like fish in the sea and allowed birds to soar in the sky. Each of these creatures was made according to its kind, thriving and multiplying. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply.” 6)

The sixth day was the day of completion. God created all living creatures on the earth. Beasts, livestock, and creeping things were made according to their kinds. Finally, God created man in His image. Humans were created uniquely in God's likeness, entrusted with the responsibility to care for and govern the earth, sea, and sky. God also blessed humans, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply,” completing all of creation. 7)

At the end of creation, God saw what He had made and declared it good, and especially after creating humanity, He said it was very good. All creation was accomplished in perfect order and beauty, reflecting God's goodness throughout. 8)

On the seventh day, God finished His work of creation and rested. He set this day apart as holy and proclaimed the completion of creation. Everything that God had created was good and beautiful in itself, and the universe itself became a masterpiece that revealed God's glory. 9)

Genesis 1 proclaims God as the all-powerful Creator who brought forth existence from nothing. Through this story, humanity gains fundamental understanding of where it came from and what is the origin of this world. 10)

<해석> 태 초

 

1-1) 태초에 하나님께서 깊은 어둠 속에서 하늘과 땅을 창조하셨다. 창세기 첫 장은 모든 존재의 시작에 대한 이야기를 들려주며, 하나님이 어떻게 우주 전체를 창조하셨는지를 설명하고 있다. 모든 것들의 원인이자 근원이신 하나님이 이 위대한 창조의 과업을 여섯 날에 걸쳐 완성하셨다.

1-2) 첫째 날에 하나님이 “빛이 있으라.”고 말씀하시고 빛을 창조하셨다. 이 빛은 공허와 혼돈의 어둠에 질서를 부여함으로써 창조의 첫걸음이 되었다. 하나님이 그 빛을 ‘낮’이라 부르시고, 어둠을 '밤'이라 부르시며 시간의 흐름을 표시하고 하루라는 단위를 정하셨다.

1-3) 둘째 날에 하나님이 하늘을 창조하셨다. 하나님이 궁창을 만드셔서 위의 물과 아래의 물을 나누어, 하늘과 땅 사이에 공간을 만드셨다. 이 공간은 땅 위에 펼쳐진 하늘이 되었고, 하늘 아래의 모든 것은 땅 위에 존재하게 되었다.

1-4) 셋째 날에 하나님이 육지와 바다를 구분하시고, 땅 위에 여러 가지 식물들을 창조하셨다. 땅이 드러나고 바다가 채워진 후, 하나님께서 각종 풀과 나무들이 자라게 하셨다. 각 식물은 생명을 유지하기 위해 씨를 맺어, 존재의 순환을 시작하게 되었다.

1-5) 넷째 날에 하나님이 과 밤을 주관할 해와 달, 별들을 창조하셨다. 해는 낮을 밝히고, 달과 별은 밤에 빛을 비추어 모든 피조물을 밝히셨다. 이로써 계절, 날, 해를 구분할 수 있는 기초가 세워졌다. 낮과 밤의 순환은 모든 생명체가 시간의 흐름 속에서 따를 질서를 가져왔다.

1-6) 다섯째 날에 하나님이 바다와 하늘을 생명으로 채우셨다. 하나님이 바다에 물고기와 같은 다양한 해양 생물을 창조하시고, 새들이 하늘을 날게 하셨다. 이 모든 생물은 각기 종류대로 창조되어 번성하고 번식하게 되었다. 하나님께서 그들에게 “생육하고 번성하라.”고 복을 주셨다.

1-7) 여섯째 날은 완성의 날이었다. 하나님께서 땅 위의 모든 생물들을 창조하셨다. 들짐승, 가축, 그리고 기어 다니는 생물들이 각기 종류대로 창조되었다. 마침내 하나님께서 자신의 형상대로 사람을 창조하셨다. 인간은 하나님의 형상을 따라 독특하게 창조되었으며, 땅과 바다, 하늘을 돌보고 다스릴 책임을 부여받았다. 하나님께서 또한 인간에게 “생육하고 번성하라.”고 축복하시면서 모든 창조를 완성하셨다.

1-8) 창조의 날이 끝날 때에 하나님께서 자신이 만드신 것을 보시고 그것이 좋다고 선언하셨다. 특히 인간을 창조하신 후에는 그것이 매우 좋다고 말씀하셨다. 모든 창조는 완벽한 질서와 아름다움 속에서 이루어졌으며, 하나님의 선하심을 온전히 반영하고 있었다.

1-9) 일곱째 날에는 하나님께서 창조의 일을 마치시고 쉬셨다. 하나님께서 이 날을 거룩하게 구별하시고 창조의 완성을 선포하셨다. 하나님께서 창조하신 모든 것은 본래 그 자체로 선하고 아름다웠으며, 우주는 하나님의 영광을 드러내는 걸작이 되었다.

1-10) 창세기 1장은 무(無)에서 존재를 만들어내신 전능하신 창조주 하나님을 선포하고 있다. 이 이야기를 통해 인류는 자신이 어디에서 온 것인지, 그리고 이 세상의 기원은 무엇인지에 대한 근본적인 이해를 얻게 된다.
